Alocasia: you cannot miss it!

21/10/2022 | Green Wellness, Inspiration

Alocasia: this plant results to be one of the most loved! ❤️
Thus, especially in recent times, plants of tropical origin have become more and more popular.
Among these, we cannot therefore mention it! The Alocasia! 😁
It looks like a real object of desire ✌️ appreciated by those who love to have green at home, even in winter.
This evergreen plant belongs to the Araceae family, and its origin is from South Asia and Southeast Asia.
We have learned to appreciate its aesthetic aspect in Europe,  and even more!
In fact, let’s think that this plant is required not only for its aesthetic qualities and advantages. It is said that for many centuries Alocasia had been used as a medicinal plant to treat some diseases. Today, however, we know that this plant contains some toxic substances and therefore it would be better to avoid using it for medicinal purposes…

A beneficial effect of Alocasia is certainly the ability to improve the quality of the air indoors by killing the bacteria thanks to the essential oils contained in its leaves 👉 but we have already mentioned it better here!
However, the aura of magic on this plant remains intact and it is said that it is given as a real good luck present. Well, there are no scientific studies about it … but who are we to contradict such legends? 😁

Alocasia: general features
Also known as ‘elephant ears’, this plant stands out for the shape and size of its leaves: they are large, imposing, and beautiful. Let’s think that the leaves can even reach one and a half meters in length!
The shapes of the leaves can vary between rounded and heart-shaped geometries, passing through some elongated qualities.
The intense green color is enriched with marked streaks with more amazing colors: bronze and purple.

Alocasia: how can we grow it?It is a really beautiful plant … and easy to grow!
Alocasia is not particularly demanding in terms of soil and some soil of leaves mixed with peat and sand are enough. This allows you to increase the drainage capacity which is essential to avoid all those harmful water stagnations which, in the long run, cause root rot and often the death of the plant itself.
About watering, Alocasia is a tropical plant 👉 so we suggest more frequent watering (2-3 times a week) in spring and more sporadic in autumn and winter!
The ideal temperatures for growing Alocasia are between 20-24°C and they must never drop below 15°C.
It is a type of plant that requires a lot of light but does not like direct sun. Alocasia loves the air, and it is therefore important to always guarantee air change but be careful not to create cold drafts.

And finally, the usual question is: where will you grow your alocasia?
We’ re suggesting you a Mymood Alto Pot! The cylindrical and long shape slims the Alocasia, enhancing the height of its bust and highlighting its large leaves 🤩
